House batteries not charging -- Road Trek

My friend just bought a Road Trek and is still figuring it out. She Said she's plugged in but the batteries are not charging. When she unplugs after hours and hours the battery power still shows as zero. She said the disconnect switch (shown)...when she pushed on the top of it, doesn't stay there. It's just rocks back to it's current position. Anyone know what she should check? And should that switch sit in either position and stay there?

Thanks...

What else should she check?
  • It's a 2013 170 Versatile. She did check the breakers...everything was a-ok. Everything works fine with shore power. She's going to have the battery checked when she gets back from a quick 4-day trip. If the switch is engaged how does one "unengage" it? Could it simply be a dead battery?

My understanding is that the switch should be on when traveling and off when storing, yes? We're also trying to figure out how her battery ended up dead (if it is) in the first place. What must she be sure to turn off when she's using it to drive around town (it's her only vehicle).

    Thanks for your help!
  • It would be helpful to the forum to know the model and year of the Roadtrek. I owned two RTs and on both the battery connect switch was a momentary contact switch. In other words, it did not stay mashed down when pressed. If the light is on, the switch is engaged. At least, that is true in virtually every RV I have ever seen.

Have you checked the voltage at the batteries? Check the connections to the batteries as well. Check the fluid levels in the batteries if they are not sealed.

If it is a newer model RT, the blue light will be an led and may be indicating even with virtually dead batteries because its power consumption is almost zilch. My best guess would be this: light on, switch engaged, problem elsewhere.

Also, when you plug in to shore power, does everything work normally? Did you check the fuses and breakers in the fuse panel?

  • We've pretty much concluded the battery is dead as that switch, we learned doesn't turn off if he batter is dead. But if it is, why would the blue battery light be lit up?

I did. "Your search returned no results."
  • I don't understand the difference in the blue light for 'battery on' and battery disconnect.
  • She took it on a trip a few weeks ago and it was working fine.
  • If this is not a new vehicle, be sure to have her check the batteries with a voltmeter.
