House batteries
DH doesn't know why he needs to add water to our house batteries about once a month. Anyone know about these batteries. Also he is planning on putting in more acid. Would this help?

Adding acid will definitely shorten the life span of the batteries. The positive plates will erode much faster and the detritus may build up and short out a cell.
