Yes they should. On the light panel, what happens when you start the generator? What happens when you run the engine? In both situations, there should be full charging "idiot" lights.
But also, what are you running the inverter for? If you are using 120 volt power to run a fridge or other device, that does rob some of the available charging power, but your engine should produce enough.
