I would check my math if I were you. If you got 8.7 mpg on 80,000 miles, that's 9,195 gallons of fuel for your RV. 40 mpg on 80,000 miles of your corolla is 2,000 gallons of fuel.
So 160,000 total miles you used 11,195 gallons of fuel for an average MPG of 14.29. not 23. You can't average MPG numbers. The math doesn't work that way.
You are right, I just average the two mpgs. I guess I was lying to myself unknowingly trying to justify the cost of RV travel
