When we were researching the purchase of our first RV we were a family of 6, the kids were 8, 4, 3 & 1, I had at least 18+ years to retirement, and in fact I still have 4 years or more before I finally do. The longest time we've been away from home in a single trip so far has been about 7 weeks. We researched just about all RV options from small hybrids to tow behind our Honda Odyssey, until we finally decided on the Class A and tow our Odyssey behind it. LOL One of the reasons we chose the Class A (the one in our signature, we still have it) is that we figured we could use it for day trips. And that we did. We still use it a couple of times a year just for a single day destination. When the kids were younger, there would be times we'd even take it to the mall.
Back when we purchased our RV, we were somewhat bucking the norm as Class A's were almost unheard of for families. It's worked great for us. It's all about the space and the floorplan, and our dual-sofa layout has worked perfectly for us over the years.
Quite honestly, I don't know if we'll ever go "full time", even in retirement, but that remains to be seen. But I would have no problem with leaving for a month or two, but I just have too much "stuff" to even contemplate selling our house and living entirely out of the RV.
Good Luck in your search. Make sure you do your research before you buy because "trading up" can be costly.
