When we were working it was usually one two week trip and several long (3 or 4 days) weekend trips throughout the summer. We are retired now and this summer we'll probably be living in it while our retirement home is being built (moving to NH). Once we are settled in, the plan is to continue on with some summer trips, spend a few months of winter at home (enjoying winter activities: skiing/snowmobiling) and then head out for an extended trip mid Feb through Apr/May. We'll also plan on doing at least one long extended trip around the US. Based on how that goes we'll decide how we will use it going forward.
Regarding storage, we always kept the rig at home and two years ago we built a garage (NH) where it is currently stored for the winter.
I think you will find if it is something you really want, you'll enjoy having the flexibility to go when you want and will use it often. Good luck.
