This may or may not be applicable but back when I was a kid my uncle had a charter bus line using Flexible buses powered with a straight 8 Buick or Packard engines configured as a gas pusher. These buses were on the road every day running between city in the midwest but little city driving. Maintenance was faithfully done and he would easily get 200 to 250,000 miles between tear-downs. As I remember, he never had an engine failure on the road and the tear-downs were for preventative purposes.
Now if he could get that kind of mileage out of those old low tech engines, I would like to think more modern Fords and GM would last at least as long.
Come to think about it they probably didn't have a lot of power but would still move a bunch of people and all their stuff done the road at a reasonably clip.
