pico2011 ----- As you can see there are lots of opinions. The minimum you should get from a gasser motorhome with a Ford or GM motor is 100,000. Likely a lot more. Heavy duty diesel motors from CAT or Cummins at least twice that. There is a big variation in build in diesels. We have a CAT C12 motor in our coach. That is a significantly larger stronger motor than a Cummins 5.9. I was told by CAT that the C12 was good for 800-1 million miles. Smaller diesel motors less. But still a lot of miles.
As far as the math of buying new vs buying used. The large lux expensive motorhomes are a bargain used. That is what I bought. Simple low end motorhomes not so much. One of my close friends just sold his 2006 National gasser. He put 80,000 miles on it and got a lot for it used. I on the other hand paid less than 30 cents on the dollar 4 1/2 years ago.
6,000 sounds way too high for a gasser extended warranty. More like 3,500. My huge expensive motorhome extended warranty cost 6,000 for the best one you can buy, Xtraride. Worth every penny in my case.
Motorhomes are a lot of fun. Buy the one you really want. Don't try to be too logical about it.
