I am surprised that you cancelled the Onan. I see the Onan as better than the underhood generator as it has been described. I would not want to be running the van engine all night. I would rather put up with the noise of the Onan. I can move the exhaust of the Onan up and away with the Genturi - can't do that with the engine exhaust.

"The power, or current, that batteries supply is dependent on chemical reactions and those reactions are slowed by freezing temperatures. Since the reactions are slowed, less energy is produced and the power output is lowered; with a lower output, the battery cannot keep up with the demand and can go dead, producing no current."

When in storage self discharge slows down as temperature drops.

It is true there is less capacity, if you should try to use the battery.

I also know Rt claims their solar panels will charge with no sun, what they don't say is how much. Probably not an issue in you situation.

thanks Rodger-also Roadtrek seems to have stopped that claim. at least it's not listed like that on all models.I don't think in new england that solar panels are a panacea-however not having to bother with a solar trickle charger seems aok.

i'd rather use the OBD2 port with the new verizonvehicle service.

it's sort of like Onstar from verizon and will work with any vehicle that has an OBD2 port. since all vehicles since 1996 have one i think i'm safe

Gerry - I saw on FB that you got your answer from RT. The solar package will keep all batteries charged including the engine battery. Really good to have that confirmed!
