i will have to store away from the house.
anyone do this and have problems starting the van after-1 week,2 weeks,3 weeks etc.
if you have no outside power hookup do you use a solar battery tender
etc.
i will have no problem going once a week to start the van but i wonder if people go longer and can still start it without using other charge methods.
thanks
It depends on the year. My '89 GMC based B doesn't have a problem sitting for weeks. On the other hand, after about 2000 or so, electrical subsystems grew a LOT. Just power windows have a static draw. You can unhook the negative battery cable from the vehicle nattery. Plus, and this is something a lot of people don't do, clean the top of the battery between the terminals. Battery outgassing puts a deposit on the battery that has a slow trickle draw. Just some paper towels and window cleaner will do the trick.
If you do start the engine from time to time, make sure it warms up completely! This will A, recharge the battery from the draw to start the engine and B, evaporate any fuel from a cold start that gets past the rings. If your storage place isn't too bad about getting into the parking space, drive it around a bit. This will keep rust from forming on brake rotors, flat spots from forming on the tires and if something is making a funny noise, you can address it then, rather than hundreds of miles from home when it acts up.
