When kids and of course us were much younger and working around tight vacation only time we would leave 3.30pm first day and stop for the night between midnight and 2am in the morning depending how the driver felt - mini stops for half hour to hour in-between for fuel and supper break. Next day hit road by 8am latest and would do remaining 8 to 10 hours driving times, with breakfast, lunch and fuel stop for half hour to hour during. That was because of limited time constraints, getting out of cold weather and wanting to not be hammering it for more than one official day of our vacation time down and same coming back.
Now we are older and hubby and I travel alone with less time restrictions we tend to do maybe six to 8 hours the first afternoon/evening travelling and maybe the same the next day during winter weathers to get to the warm asap. If summer months sometimes we only get a couple hours up the road and amble around.
Number of hours folks drive varies hugely depending on individuals situations, it's as varied an answer as the question folks ask about how much does it cost to RV full time.
