Quiet Hours

problem is people are too ignorant to realize how loud they are getting.

you want to sit out in the quiet night by your campfire and converse, use a notepad.

I would say that from 10:00PM until 9:00AM, you shouldn't disturb your neighbor.
Bottom line!

It will depend a bit on how close that neighbor is, and how good their hearing is:)

Quiet conversation around a fire pit is one thing....wild moans and groans from a bouncing camper are another:B

Besides, that "complete silence" is a tough one.....I snore, and occasionally fart in my sleep.....or so I'm told:B

10pm No telling jokes, no drinking. Put out (completely) your stinky fire.
10p-1a Go inside and talk
1a-6a. Turn off your gas water heater.
6a-9a No stopping under my bedroom window and talking about your dogs
9a Yell, honk your horn, run your generator.

There are just way too many interpretations of quiet hours. I say get rid of all the noise rules and issue each campsite that wants one a cone of silence.

The problem with this is that a family talking low still creates a lot of noise. Get a group of young people and there is no such thing as talking low (especially if alcohol is involved). In the fall/spring with cool weather, sleeping with the windows open is a plus.

Perhaps extending the free for all time to 11:00 would be better.

Making unenforceable rules is akin to whittling without a knife, pretty much a total waste of time and effort!

One quiet time is just fine with me...

Maybe should even make it more complicated...different times and more rules for each different day of the week.

Ran into unique quiet hours at the Grand Canyon. I fired up the gen around 5:45PM while preparing dinner. A few minutes later, a host stopped by and said "you're a little early on the generator." Turned out generators could only be run a couple hours in the morning (I think 7-9AM) and a couple more in the evening (6-8PM). No generators allowed any other time of the day.

I have no problem complying with the policy, but it just caught me off guard because I've never encountered such odd hours in many years of camping and travel. Strangely, the only place the rule was posted, was on a small list (as in small font) at the pay station.

I know we are all different, some think that quiet hours means you WILL be in the rack at the position of attention.
some accept reasonable noise of human activity, and some think that it means nothing at all.

And who is going to enforce this?

The campers will be arguing that the time on your watch is wrong.

That is not to say it is a bad idea, just unworkable.

It is hard enough to enforce clear cut rules that are in effect 24 hours a day.
