Ive seen many people ask "how many miles do you think I can drive per day" and the answers are all over the place for a verity of reasons. So lets ask it a little differently:
When you travel with your Class A, about how many hours a day do you like to drive?
generally, 4. out of the CG by 10, lunch at noon for an hour and in the next overnight CG by 3. - mike_brezExplorerIn my old P30 chassis a few hours and I was beat. My first drive with the DP was 16 hours. We just did a 10 hour leg of our trip a few days ago.
- John_S_Explorer III will leave the night before and get 200 miles done. Then unlike a work day, hit the road at 5 am and drive till 9 for a breakfast stop tnen back on the road till lunch and then drive till 6-8pm. I can do this two days in a row so that is 6-700 miles plus the 200 for about 1600. Usually gets me where I am going. If I have to go further I will stop at 600 miles and about ten to 12 hours. I work to get my mph avg up to about 60 instead of the easy 50. Means less stops and cruise on at 65.
- IvylogExplorer IIITwo Jayhawks, you get the last laugh as it's only 600 miles to Colorado Spring for you... a easy one day trip.
Hey (or is it Aye?), I did give you credit for keeping the left coast further away which so far is not as sensitive as you.:B
*I've lost track of the number of times I've been across Kansas or Nebraska which is slightly more interesting[COLOR=].... sorry I cannot help myself.:( I do remember in KA having to mail in my speeding ticket while the officer watched back when the speed limit was 55... maybe that's the root of my problem??? - J-RoosterExplorerI drive 4 to 5 hours a day when driving from Port Orchard, Washington State to Lake Havasu City, AZ. and back. I try to really enjoy my driving time, I don't speed, stop when I want!
- crassterExplorer IIUsually no more than 8.
- Mody_n_DomyExplorerI travel 60 + - which averages out to about 50mph stop for lunch or fuel for us or the MH. We try to keep it around 250 miles. Whats the rush were retired!
- bobtuckerExplorerSweet spot for our DP is 60-62 mph. For estimating I plan on 300-350 miles per day. six to eight hours driving a day. average for planning is fifty miles traveled per hour.

Busskipper, last summer we left at 7PM and stopped at a Cracker Barrel north of Nashville. Woke up at 6AM and hit the road before they open saving $20 on breakfast. North of K city a friend called asking if I knew I-29 was closed at Sioux City...NO! We had planned on taking US 2 across to Glacier because we had never been in that part of the mid west. Decided to go to the Tetons instead as they were routing traffic to the east around the flooding. The next afternoon we were in the Tetons... a lot more than 1500 miles. Going west I buy fuel every 400 miles as the price increases as you go west and it lets me stretch my legs . Going east I will go 800 miles on a tank and yes I love Gas Buddy as it's easy to save 12-15 cents using it over going to FlyJ.
I realize this is not for most, especially as we get older so there is not one size fits all. Even though we are semi retired, it's still the destination for us. If I get sleepy I'll pull over and let the DW drive for a couple hours while I take a nap. She has decided there are only two good ways to see Kansas... at night or from 30,000'. Safe travels to all.
Well lighten up on Kansas......this is the second time in one thread you bagged on the midwest. - tinkererExplorerThe days of driving 700 miles a day are over for me. No more than 500 miles with stopping for a break every 175-200 miles.:)
