When we bought we new exactly what we wanted - model #, options, extras. We sent the list to approx. 20 different dealers throughout the country and the cheapest one got the sale. As full-timers, we didn't care where we bought it. As it was, we never returned to the dealer after purchase. Luckily, our motorhome didn't have any big issues and the handful of small items were taken care of by the next dealer we traveled by or else Newmar mailed us the part. It was no big deal with the purchase and a very easy way to go.
We didn't have a trade-in for our 5th wheel. We sold it ourselves and the party was willing to wait until we had the new one.
In future years we had absolutely no reason to go to any dealer. Servicing was not done by the dealer but by an independent as we traveled. We made an appt.; arrived and stayed on their lot the night of arrival (mostly with electric) and the servicing was done the next day. We left for traveling again if it was by early afternoon or else we stayed on the lot one more night. It worked great for us.
