I would agree with most postings above until I had to replace a turbo on my Cummins to the tune of $4200!

I recommend that you budget $2K per year for maintenance and repairs.

My first year when I bought this at 11 years old it cost me about 2k for every filter, oil and zirk I could find to be replaced, changed or cleaned. Oil hubs, drive shaft, U joints...everything that moves that has a filter or lube. And I missed some. But I don't do most of the work myself although I am learning slowly.

I've heard that you should put 10% of the purchase price for the first year to cover things deferred and things you want to change/fix. For me, that number was low, but I did a bit of reconfiguration inside. Also, I bought 6 new tires and that was the 10% right there.

In airplanes we used twice the hourly operating cost into the Mx fund, but that needed to cover a replacement engine every 2000 hours or so. That might be a good place to start. At 8 MPG and $2.50 a gallon for fuel, that works out to $40/hour or 32 cents a mile. That sounds reasonable. At the end of the first year, you would have $1300 in the kitty for PM.

one thing I was told some time ago and has proved true in a couple cases including my current coach is to set aside an additional 10% of your purchase price as a protection for the unexpected ( you aren't talking about that I know but ....) especially on a older Coach that a service plan isn't available for

Tires will be about $700 apiece, replaced every 7 yrs..I've got 8 so I set aside $75/mo for tires. Oil change, lube and filters, (oil and fuel incl separator) runs $310/yr @ SpeedCo, so that's another $25/mo. Figure an air dryer and air filter immediately then with the miles you're planning on putting on per year, those will be a one shot deal. They'll run you another $350. $200 for filters and $150 for the install. (I won't get under my coach as I don't have the proper blocking in the event of an air line failure) With the above, I'd put my budget at about $1500/yr. Anything left over goes in the next yrs budget. Most of the "house" stuff you can fix yourself. I carry an couple extra 'sharkbite' fittings, 1/2" and 3/8" to fix any plumbing problems, an extra couple fuel filters and an extra drive belt for emergencies...Best of luck...Dennis
