Depending on the roof type they are supposed to be washed every 6 months or so. It’s very important to keep the roof clean as it’s the only way to verify that the sealant is in good condition. I try to follow that schedule. I also inspect and reseal the roof on the same schedule. It’s far easier to keep up on the roof cleaning and maintenance than dealing with a leaking roof. I just inspected and resealed my sidewall a few weeks ago and I checked and resealed the roof earlier this year. I’m paranoid about water. It’s also why I have a mechanical dehumidifier in my coach.
What do you wash your roof with?
When I had an EPDM rubber roof I used the specialty cleaner recommended by the manufacturer for EPDM roofs. With TPO there isn't as much of an issue so I just use mild, non-abrasive household detergent and water. The idea is to remove any bird droppings, algae mold, dirt, dust, and other contaminants that are abrasive and can damage the roof membrane.
