How old?

I'll be 66 next month, what helped me was a book I read about 12 years ago My Life of Adventure, by Alaskan, Norman Vaughan. It's not the best written book I've ever read, but the message is wonderful! During his lifetime Norm dropped out of Harvard to be a dog musher on the Admiral Byrd Antarctic Expedition and while there had a 10,300' mountain named after him. At the age of 89 Norm came back and climbed the mountain. He also competed in the Iditarod well up into his 80's. Basically his message was, that though you might be slower and uncompetitive with the younger guys you can still have a wonderful time doing it. After reading Norm's story, I realized that my "Golden Years" didn't have to be miserable.

Oliver Sachs is not only a great neurologist but also a great writer. I assigned one of his books, The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat to students in my classes in Physiological Psychology. It's fascinating reading.

Great article. I agree with it as at 73 I see the world just now opening up to a great future for me to explore.

Oliver Sachs is not only a great neurologist but also a great writer. I assigned one of his books, The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat to students in my classes in Physiological Psychology. It's fascinating reading.

I'm 71. I've been RVing since 1991. Retired in 2001. Bought the Safari in 2007.

I've been dealing with a persistent health issue for the past three years. At times I've been able to drive the coach to exercise the engine but no camping trips. Had some surgery on my foot and the incision has been slow to heal. Hopefully I'll be ready to go by September or October.

My Dad lived to 98, so that's a reasonable target. ;)

Now about those car keys...didn't I tell you where they are?

We are in our 3rd year and are just beginning. We are currently 57/62 and plan to do this for a long time. We love this life.

While everyone says they will keep going until they cannot safely do it anymore I think the states need to require driving and eye tests after age 65. You see a lot of people obviously over that age creep out of their motorhomes and pickup tow vehicles and have an obvious hard time making it across a truck stop parking lot. I think the tests every couple of years are a better assessment of driving skills than "I'll quit when I'm dangerous" kind of attitude.

Obviously its an individual case by case decision. I retired at 51 and at 71 I have been back to work full time for 5 years. Last month I worked 13 days straight for a total of 176 hours. I am working in agronomy and we have a farmer customer that is 94 and still farms 400 acres. He bought a new planter last year and a new pickup this year. My idol. My MIL is 93 and still lives alone. Remodeled her kitchen last year. She gave up her license at 90 though. Probably won't buy another MH unless I get the right 6 numbers but we enjoy the one we have for a couple of short trips in the late summer/fall and try to go for 4 to 6 weeks in the winter. Hopefully I'll know when to quit however I drive a 25 ton truck daily hauling liquid and dry fertilizer so as long as I can do that I think I can handle the MH. Hope everyone can do it as long as the want to and feel comfortable and safe.

Those people talking about sailing-----its a long way across the ocean and the water looks the same everywhere for days on end.....by the time I was 25 I had been around the world twice----part of the way once by boat....then I discovered planes----look at the water a few hours and then you are in another country....did that till I was in my 40s then settled here in the US and now have been pretty much all over it but still keep finding new things to see and do. I will not sit and wait to die if I can help it.
