Are they talking about unclipping/removing the thermistor from the fins or unplugging it from the electrical supply? I know I can also ohm out the thermistor but I wanted to check by disconnecting it first.
disconnect;;BUT to note if a thermistor is bad your fridge will over cool(freeze foods)
