Norcold 1210 Not Cooling

I have been fighting this unit since brand new, over 2 years back and forth with the manufacturer, little to no help.  Thanks to someone on these boards, they shared the troubleshooting manual with me and I was able to get into the fault checks.  It shows an open or faulty thermistor, can this keep my unit from not cooling at all?

  • Update on the unit, I bought a new cooling system and installed yesterday and now i get an error when turned on.  "L1 oP" the unit is brand new, any idea on how to correct?

never mind, after searching YouTube, found the magnets trick and reset it :)

  • The cooling unit was the issue, replaced the unit while standing, some say lay it down, but makes installing the from screws difficult in my opinion.  Unit has been running on AC all day, freezer is at 10 and refrigerator is at 38, finally we have cool where we need it :)

I switch to gas, and it is not igniting, I hear no spark, but smell gas.  It had a great flame on old cooling unit, so probably simple.

Back to more troubleshooting, very happy we made progress.

Solved the gas issue, the ignitor was too close and not getting enough spark.

all good now, spent the Holiday weekend with a working refrigerator

Thank-you for taking the time to come back and update us

  • I'll throw a different answer in there, yes it might be.  here is a quote directly from google search

"Yes, a faulty thermostat can definitely make an RV fridge fail to cool. If the thermostat is not working correctly, it may not regulate the temperature properly, leading to the fridge not getting cold enough or not cycling on and off as it should."

I actually had a faulty thermistor cause my fridge to not get cold in the past, but there are lots of other things to look for also if you have cooling issues, depending on the type of cooling issue.

I ordered on and will see what happens, little back recent update.... when looking at the diagnostic on the refrigerator i had no heat measurements on the top fins and now i get heat and was up to 65 degrees, as a last resort I went ahead and turned it upside down for 24 hours and now i seem to get a little more flow.  Pretty sure my colling unit is bad

ya if turning it over made a difference, then chances are it dislodged something temporarily, and it is crystalizing inside.

  • Generally, no. If the thermistor is open or shorted the cooling unit should go into backup mode. If you have the Service Manual, how to determine the if unit is in backup mode, and how to test the thermistor is all explained in detail in the manual. If you don’t actually have the Service Manual, that needs to be your starting point. That manual will make it a lot easier to diagnose your problem then “diagnosis via forums”.

My main question, would this actually stop the refrigerator from cooling?

the manual does show how to test the unit, with a chart that shows resistance to temperature, the fault on the refrigerate shows it as an open or fault.  A replacement was only $12 and will be delivered tomorrow, with my RV in storage, once i get the new part I will go install it and hopefully clear that fault.

The answer to your main question was “Generally, no”.
