How to clean Toilet bowl seal?

Another good example of the value of this forum. I made my tool from a scrap piece of vinyl siding and it cleaned the seal quickly. Cleaning and plumbers grease solved the problem. Thanks for all the suggestions. One can still learn after 13 years of RVing.

On our Thetford Sealand unit I've found by dumping all the water then spraying 303 Aerospace Protectant on the ball seal and letting it soak for a a day or so works for us.

Same idea, I used a very small flat tip screwdriver, heated up and bent it at a 90 degree angle works everytime.

Take on old butter knife, pliers and bend tip of knife. About 1/4 inch at tip, right angle, insert and run around seal. This should clean out seal. As others have said, than use a petroleum jelly to swell seal, even dawn dw will work in dry bowl.

I just did ours. Cleaned the seal with a Velcro strip rubbing it on the seal. I then rubbed some toilet valve conditioner on the seal and then inspected the seal with a small inspection mirror on a rod to make sure the seal was clean and in good condition, closed the valve and put some additional valve conditioner in the toilet bowl and let it sit for several days. It now holds water perfectly.

I also have some of the plumbers grease mentioned above on hand in the RV for future use if needed. Also make sure the slide valve or ball closer depending on which you have is clean and smooth.

Any sealer used for Marine purposes.

Try wiping it with Vaseline.
