How to find out if a Class A diesel pusher is right for me
I have owned increasingly larger 5ver's for over 15 years, currently towing the 40 foot fifthwheel in my signature below.
My DW is talking 40ft plus Diesel pusher motorhome for retirement. How in the world can I find out if I would like driving a unit like this. I have no experience driving buses and have only taken one older smaller gasser class A out for a test drive and found it to be unresponsive, wallowy, mushy, difficult to maintain lane control with any wind and/or passing trucks.
I am confident towing the fifthwheel under any normal conditions maintaining the speed of the traffic majority under highway and very heavy urban traffic situations, but I have no idea what it is like to drive a buses and toad in these condition and whether I would.
A; like it
and
B; be confident doing it
How has others who have made this transition come to this level of experience without bus driving background and made the correct decisions for themselves.
Also the local dealer that has numerous diesel pusher class A's insists on signed offers to purchase before allowing test drives.
Is this a common practice amongst Class A dealers?
