Dealers frequently allow prospective customers to test drive DPs. I certainly would not buy one if you don't try it first. Find another dealer.
Regarding choice, in general, DPs are much more comfortable to drive than a typical gasser due to better suspension, etc. I have said many times the decision should be based on what you do in it. If you travel more than "stay", you should have a DP. If you stay more than travel, the 5er is best.
My wife and I travel a lot and typically stay for short times in many locations. We have had our current 40' DP for 10 years and love it. It is comfortable to live in, comfortable to drive and works for us. We like it when we pull into a campground, hit a button to dump the air, hit another button to level the coach, put the slides out and plug in. We are done. We also like it when we stop for the night at a rest area. We shut the engine off and we are down for the night. Like I said, travel is a pleasure.
