Getting the adapters is the best idea. If you can't get adapters, then cut, splice, and solder so you can use the old cable.
Running a new cable is not technically difficult, but you'll do a lot of slithering along on your back and you'll get dirty.
If you have to run new cable, use the method outlined by Jim M above, route the new cable down the back cap, along the frame rail, and back up into the cab area. Be sure to avoid high heat areas, and protect from rubbing through the insulation due to vibration.
A few lucky RV'rs have found an open conduit along the frame rail that could be used. I wasn't that lucky.
