How to Remove Boots from Onan Spark Plugs?

Question

I know this sounds silly, but I don't want to mess anything up. I am trying to replace the 2 spark plugs on my Onan Marquis Gold 5500 amp generator. The spark plugs are inset on each end and sort of difficult to access. So far when I reach in with my hand I pull, tug, twist and pry and can't get the boot off the end of either spark plug.

I am wondering if I am supposed to peel back the rubber boot and release a latch on the clip to the spark plug. But I don't want to do this unless there is really a latch there.

Any insight would be appreciated, thanks in advance...

I use a spark plug boot puller tool. Most auto parts stores should have one or more styles. They can also be found on Amazon...

After you remove them with a boot puller tool, use Dielectric grease on the plugs and you won't have the problem again.
You can also use this same grease on exterior light bulb sockets and all electrical connections to prevent corrosion.
