Basic rule of electricity drummed into me many years ago by my auto shop instructor in high school: "ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS MUST BE CLEAN AND TIGHT".
Loose or dirty connections along with the sneaky green wire (corrosion under the insulation) are the most common electrical problems regardless if it is AC or DC current. If we all remember this basic rule our lives will be much simpler. Dielecrtric grease is a lifesaver when used religiously on connections.
