On our Big trip of the yr, DW and I decided all the way to the west coast....Part of the trip we are looking at traveling down hwy 1 from San Fran to LA..How are the roads for a 34' motorhome towing a car?Easy drive? or will I have a "Death Grip" on the wheel?Thanks in advance for any advice and/or "must see" stops/information.Pete

What can I say? It will be an exciting drive. I am from CA and you could not pay me enough to drive that stretch of road in a motorhome.

Don't do it. It was never built for RVs and there are far too many blind corners and switchbacks.It might just be navigable in a 35 footer but you won't enjoy the experience.I believe it has a length restriction of 40' in places so you just know that 35' is going to be tight.If you want to drive it, rent a red corvette and enjoy it that way :)http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/the-best-road-trip-in-america

Seems you will be traveling in the best direction, we have driven it both ways, but never in anything as long as your rig. Here's some older posts: San Francisco to Los Angles Area and Half Moon Bay & San Francisco & BART which can be found in this old post: :C ClickyWe enjoyed the sights & sites along the 101. If you haven't gone to see "Hearst Castle". "Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument" is a must see. And San Simeon State Park is just south of the Monument. The Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey is really great. North of Monterey at Moss Landing is a great sea food place over by the docks, called Phil's Fish Market & Eatery. Santa Barbara is a neat area to see. We used Carppinteria State Park as a base to see the area. For viewing the Pacific Coast via the highway, Northbound is better (do not have to cross traffic to pull off at sites, or recross getting back on). But we have done it both ways, northbound & southbound.
