Hwy 1 in Ca

Is hwy 1 from Morro Bay to Monterey O.K. for a 43ft m/h with toad?
  • A tag axle coach is a pretty easy give away for any CHP cruiser on that road. The CHP has been known to enforce zero tolerance on that road depending on accident stats.

While they have you stopped, they might just as well do a complete inspection of your rig, insurance, safety, driver's license, even weight if they choose etc. IMHO, save yourself the aggravation, possible delay of your travels and invariably added cost of a ticket(s) or more. Other folks traveling that highway will appreciate it as well.....just sayin.....Dennis
  • I've been on that route w/auto & I wouldn't do it w/ my MH!
  • That section of Highway 1 is less windy than Highway 1 north of SF. Your motorhome could probably make it just fine as long as you took it slow and used the turnouts, but as already pointed out over 40 foot is illegal on that section of 1. I have no idea how hard CHP enforces it, but every time I've been on the road I've never seen an over 40 footer out there.
  • That section of hwy 1 is a red route by cal trans which means Motorhomes over 40 Ft are prohibited, from San Simion to carmel.
Here is a link to the web site, when it comes up click on the number 5 on thee map and you w1ll see the red route.
