Hydralift installed on freightliner raised rail chassis

Has anyone had a Hydralift Motorcycle lift installed on a Freightliner raised rail tag axle chassis? If so any problems with the install. Reason for question is do to design of raised rail chassis as main rail does not come all the way to rear of Coach engine is mounted on a drop down section of chassis. Thanks Seabee13

    seabee13,
Sorry, I didn't see this post 'till just now. Up until only a few days ago, I did the install of and, had that Hydralift on our '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the 330 CAT. Now, yes, our frame did not go all the way to the rear and I mounted my Hydralift on the subframe. I removed the factory 10,000 lb. hitch and put support angle iron in the exact same holes. Then, I attached the cradles of the mounting system for the Hydralift on those angle irons.

We used that Hydralift carrying a 2008 Honda GL 1800, right at almost 900 lbs. for just over 8,000 miles. We had no issues, no handling problems, no wandering, no frame issues, no "porpusing" of the front end and, any other world wide dilemma that I was told was going to happen when I did some inquiries.

I did much calculation and thought processing prior to the install. Basically, I knew the weight of the rig prior to the install and, I knew it was going to be overweight after the install and with the bike on there. But, since the rig was not under any warranty, with my back ground in large truck operations, suspensions, fabrications, etc. I also knew there's a safety factor in their figures.

But, after 8,000 flawless miles, I decided it was not worth pushing the envelope any further. You see, on my coach, with the 17,500 lb. GAWR, I was running down the road at 21,000 lbs. on the rear axle. Now, the suspension and the frame can and did handle that overload without problems but, my main concern was the tires. I was 2600 lbs. overweight on the rear tires. That meant I was 1,300 lbs. per side!

What that meant was, if I blew a tire on one side, the other tire on the same side would instantly be overloaded by another 650 lbs. So, after carful considerations and thought, we changed our method of transporting the bike. We sold the Hydralift and it is being shipped from So CAL to Tennessee. We now have 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 with a Rampage in it and, we'll be leaving for a maiden voyage with that setup tonight at midnight.

Anyway, you'll have no issues with a tag system. I'd be glad to assist on technical stuff if you'd like.
    Scott
