I 75 construction

Hi,
We are planning a trip Southward on the I 75 from Windsor to
Chattanooga TN but I heard there is a lot of construction everywhere??.
Can anyone comment. We are driving a pusher and towing.
Thank you very much.

  • Just drove north from TN to MI. Avoid Cincinnati south bound, I will take the bypass when I go back down. Otherwise, everything else was ok. I picked up I75 around Corbin, KY.
  • Seems like it shouldn't matter much. While waiting for the "signman", have lunch...:)

We're never in that big of a hurry where construction zones matter. Of course we avoid the Interstates so our journeys are usually slower anyway. Single line traffic moving at 55mph is safer anyway than multi laned traffic moving at various speeds from 80-50. JMHO....Dennis

For Michigan (if you cross at the bridge or tunnel this gives you about the first 50 miles) go to www.michigan.gov/mdot and click on the traffic link top left as I recall. From there you can see the construction and even view a section of the trip on camera.

I have traveled I-75 several times in the construction season and never had any problem.. in fact the only time there was a problem it was in a NON-Construction area (at least 50 miles from nearest construction) and the CB warned me about it so I took the last exit before the closure (2 fatal accidents) had dinner, a good night's sleep and continued on in the AM unimpeded.
  • Take I-275 West when you approach Cincinnati (about MM15) follow it towards Indiana and then towards Kentuky. Try to avoid rush hour. When I-275 cross the Ohio river between Indiana and Kentucky, the brige is reduced to one lane each way. Nothing over 9' wide. MH are OK.
  • When you get to Chattanooga, Tn areas at Hwy 153 intersection, you may and probably will encounter heavy backed up traffic. If you get there before 3:00 traffic will be moving easier.
From Hwy 153 exit to I75/I24 junction will be backed up after 3:00 generally and on west on I24 will be heavy through Chattanooga.
There is some construction on I24 near hwy 127 intersection.
If you are camping off I75 south of Chattanooga,at KOA or Holiday park after the intersection traffic will be heavy but not backed up or stopped like going north and west.
