I caved in and moved to DP

I have loved my gasser's. I have owned 3. They were what I could afford or what I could justify at the time because of work, kids etc. We retired in April, 2017 and spent 5 months in our Safari Simba. We put 7500 miles of it and had the time of our lives. It was so wonderful that we decided to go full time. Our original plan was to keep it one more year and then get a DP. The problem was that because Safari was built by Monaco and they went belly up, it was getting hard to get parts. Example; a valve would go bad, no big deal, right, except no one made that valve any more and you had to purchase the whole new piece. It was at this point that we decided to buy our DP now. We spent countless hours researching different makes and models and as we kept narrowing it down, what we want, what we can afford, a used Newmar Dutch Star kept coming to the fore front. So we found the one we wanted at the price we could afford and pulled the trigger.
We just got back from our first 1000 mile trip, and all I can say is WOW! The mountains will not be any taller. The views will not be anymore majestic, but the luxury of living space and quality of driving is indescribable. If we could not have afforded this type of unit, we would have still had the experience in our beautiful gasser. If a tent is what works for you, do it, just do it. My wife did not need a coach like this. To give you an idea of the type of woman she is, she told me one time that if we lost everything and lived in a card board box, we would be the best card board box people in the world. This is a luxury for us, it is not necessary, buy it is enjoyed. Go, see the sights, enjoy your life. Where ever you are financially, enjoy where you are.

Yes i am a traitor to the gasser world but oh i think happy one. I will keep you posted. First run fro tucson to Orlando.

Goldencrazy, CONGRATS on the new rig, I am SO jealous. I'm back looking for a motorhome again but probably won't be able to get one as nice.

Exactly why I'm looking for a motorhome again. I traded a 40' DP for a 38' 5th wheel and had it for 4 years before I sold it. I could just never get comfortable with an 8 ton tail wagging my Silverado 2500 HD dog around.

I thought our gasser was really good with that, but there was still no comparison to what we have now and especially when climbing long 6%+ grades. In fact, it's one of the things DW likes best about it and often comments to this fact.

You bought an upgraded coach there is no way you could have bought it in a gas model at that size and length. Enjoy your new ride.

We had 5th wheels for 14 years, enjoyed them very much!

We went the other way. As we drove our diesel pusher down the road we always thought about how dangerous it was, with all the heavy appliances right behind us that would come flying forward in a crash a smashing into us as we smashed into that non airbagged dash and that big bug collecting windshield.
