Why? Because they are driving unconcious. On the cel phone, reaching for food, talking with somebody behind them, texting, putting on makeup, daydreaming, under the influence, changing lanes WHITHOUT so much as checking the mirror and certainly not looking over the shoulder...I could go on endlessly. With a 100 mile per day commute with my motorcycle, I saw a lot of stupid stuff, and I did get to use my Stebel to wake up 3 drivers that were about to sideswipe me because they were too lazy to look..
By the way, we bikers call those in their 4-wheel devices 'cagers' because they are driving in their steel cages and believe they are fully protected not withstanding their lax attentions.
