Rent one for a while and go on an adventure. Nothing like investing a few hundred thousand $$$ in a MH and finding out your wife don't like it and won't have anything to do with it anymore.
Also, lots of things to consider that you can flesh out as you rent - like for instance; once you park and get all set up on a site, you don't have any wheels to go to the grocery store, site seeing, out for dinner, etc. Now what?
Renting one is not going to give her a 'homey' feeling. It's going to be void of personal things.
When you get set up on your site you hop in your economical car to sitesee.
OP: I would guess that if you got a motorhome your wife would have no problem making it feel like a "home". She can bring in her photos, crafts, favorite dishes and cookware, her choice of linens, perhaps her favorite footstool, afghan to get cozy under, favorite pictures to hang on the wall, a few baskets for catch-alls, etc. RVs can certainly be made to feel like a home. Think of all the full-timers out there who sold their homes and now live permanently and travel the country in their RVs. We did for 16 years and it was the greatest experience we've ever had. Plus, you can clean house in a half-hour! :)
