I want to build my coach out of legos

Returning from a trip to Lego Land Fla. My 9 year old and I LOVED it. If you have kids the place is awesome. Anyway, while there they have these various massive city models. These things are huge and one such model is Daytona 500. In the infield are various motorhomes. The detail was incredible and they looked to be about 18 - 24" long. Slides, graphics, etc. So having millions of legos I wanted to try and build my coach. Anyone ever try this? What's the best approach? Lego designer? I emailed the park but have yet to get a response. Am I nutty? - Wait don't answer that. Saw a youtube video where a kid built his grandpa's Winnebago complete with bins, slides etc. Figure I could try that.. I've said that before with mixed results though.
  • Probably be better built and last longer than a standard RV :D
  • If you get their catalog,it has pieces you can order that are not very public parts in their consumer models. I never knew Lego made so many parts and different colors.
  • GO FOR IT!!!!!! Yes there was a guy who built a Winnebago Chieftain I think a 1978 model. It was cool. I have a picture of it somewhere I snagged off the website. If I find it I would post it
  • Will have to check that lace out. My 8 year old grandson is a HUGE Lego fan. Has been since he was 5 yrs. old. All he wants for every birthday, Christmas, etc. his parents took him to Lego land in Chicago. He wants to be an engineer like his Daddy when he grows up and working with Legos certainty exercises the mind in that respect-lots of patience, vision, and problem-solving.

Post some pics if you get a chance.
  • There are youtube videos of lego builders making 5th wheel rigs. Jaystepher is the youtube name of a very talented builder. Let me know how this works out. I too would like to do the same.
  • I've been to Legoland in California. And, it's not just for kids. It IS amazing to see what they can do with those little blocks! LOL!

    Good Luck!

I downloaded the lego designer and it's a helpful program for sure but it's clunky to work with. The upside is it will create instructions for you. Downside it's every bit like doing it twice and real legos are easier to work with. I think a scale of 1" = 1'. I should end up with a 30" x 1 foot tall monster. Anything smaller and I am thinking details will be lost. Lots of specialty pieces I'll be needing for bin doors etc. We'll see how it goes. I'll document my build. Thinking the son and I might start soon. Sure would be nice if Lego gets back to me with a basic build sheet for one of the ones they have. Modifying an existing design would be easier than scratch. But who knows, if I nail it maybe I could sell the plans or models.
  • A Lego Sculpture of a bazillion pieces begins with a single brick...start building! :)

I'll be looking forward to following the "Build Thread" here...I wonder which Forum Category it will fit into?
  • You might want to contact their "Media Services" division because of the inherent publicity that would come from such a endeavor.

In any case, here is the contact information:
