From an amateur engineering look I'd say they have the rack and drive gear assy in the wrong location (on the side). The slide rack should be on the bottom of the slide out so that the s/o weight works for you. As it is now, any misalignment or wiggle will eventually strip the gears.
I believe most other makes use this approach, my current Entegra does as well as my last Monaco.
Of course it's doubtful those small motors could handle that much additional slide weight.
There are huge rollers on the bottom mounted to the floor that carry the weight of the slide. I found out that one was way out of adjustment. I think that could have caused the catastrophe.
Out of curiousity, how did you know that this roller was out of adjustment, as I also see two of these things under my kitchen slide on my tiffin. Also, did you happen to get the error code from the the controller? I find it odd that I can move the slide back and forth without issues through the manual override but not through the wall switch. Please keep us posted on what the thor tech does as I would be interested in knowing to have my slides fixed for good.
The Thor rep showed me where the rear roller was not properly supporting the weight of the slide at the rear underneath the slide. There were no errors on the controllers. The motors were both running in sync. The failure was in the lower pinion gear and teeth, all purely mechanical.
