Idea:: Adding separate AC to MH that has basement a/c

I have an idea to add an additional roof mount a/c to my MH as a backup and sometimes additional a/c cooling for really hot days.
I have a 30 amp rig with EMS and with basement a/c, but I have 2 shore cords, 30 amp (managed by the EMS) and a 20 amp shore cord for the 2nd compressor a/c. This setup was purchased from Power Solutions (I don't think they are around any longer) but it works great and has worked great for years with no problems. With this setup, running both compressors, I am pulling about 14 amps total on the 30 amp leg.
My new idea is to have an A/C installed thru the roof vent which is only about 3 feet from the dedicated microwave oven outlet, unplug the microwave, and plug in the additional a/c for added cooling.
The EMS would continue to manage normally as it would think the microwave was on. The a/c unit I have been considering (Coleman 11K) seems to pull the same amount of amperage as the microwave does.
In summary:
1. Install rooftop a/c that pulls about 11 amps
2. Run wire for rooftop a/c to the area where the microwave oven plugs into dedicated outlet. Install plug on the a/c unit
3. When not in use, leave microwave plugged in as usual.
4. When needing additional cooling, simply unplug microwave, plug in a/c unit. Turn on A/C unit. Should be pulling about 26-28 amps total, just as it does when the microwave is running.

I would run the power cord to a compartment on driver's side near your 30 amp cord. When needed run a short extension cord to the 15A outlet on the pedestal. You cannot have too many amps... 45.

I agree, and considered that method, but I really wanted to be able to run the AC if needed while traveling with the generator. By plugging into the microwave outlet (which is easy access), we can run off shore power or generator.
  • Sooner or later you will get annoyed by the need of changing the plugs.
Run the wire to main panel and have the setup review by qualified electrician.
