ignition switch problem

On my 1999 Tradewinds, I just replaced the starting motor batteries and now my screen for rear camera and steps don't recognize the switch is off. Screen light stays on all the time even when the switch is turned and key is removed.

The steps also go in and out like they used to do when the key was turned on. I have a switch on the wall that would make them retract when the key was off, but now they come in anytime the door is closed.
I disconnected the wall switch and no change. I'm thinking that somehow those items don't recognize the switch is turned off and that maybe the switch itself is defective. I know it is a 1972 GM switch.

Any ideas?
  • A 1972 switch in a 1999 rig? There is several different ignition switches used in GM and Workhorse chassis.
    What chassis do you have?
  • Are you sure you wired the batteries correctly? If everything worked correctly before the battery change, I would go back to the batteries and look for miswiring.

total agreement if that is in fact what happened. Sounds like a relay ground may have been left off or who knows
