I agree the area from the bridge down to Traverse city is gorgeous but you will have trouble finding cheap. The UP is great and some wonderful places and great State Parks but you won't have full hookups. Most have electricity and dump stations. Northern WI has a variety of nice lakes and the Lake Michigan shore in Door County is great but that is all high season so not inexpensive. I would not setup in just one place. Move around from WI through the UP and to the northern part of lower Peninsula. Great in summer. UP after July 1 to avoid black flies.
