Inside storage worth the money?

You may not recover much of the money at resale time, but you will definitely save a bunch on maintenance and repairs. We've stored both our motorhomes indoors their entire lives.

In 12 years our 2001 Adventurer only needed a couple feet of the roof seams to be recaulked. Friends of ours with the exact same motorhome stored outdoors needed to have the entire roof recaulked 3 times at $600.00 per incident.

We never had to replace tires due to weather checking again saving $2400.00 over a 12 year period.

Our motorhome never needed to be professionally buffed to return the finish to the original shine. Our friends paid over $1500.00 in the same time period to keep theirs in the same condition.

Another other positive is that if you should develop a water leak at a window or roof seam it will be protected from advancing to the stage where it destroys wall coverings, flooring, and furniture.

The best things about indoor storage is that you don't have to worry about whether things will be in good shape when you want to use it, and you won't have to spend a ton of money and time correcting weather related damage.

I see the mods have removed my post for no reason, as a Good Sam member and towing service for many years now has me thinking twice about renewing...

Much of the cost depends on where you live. I pay $150 with power. What "2015 American" do you have, they make a half dozen or so?

As the second owner of a 20 year old coach that was stored mostly inside, I'd say it's worth it :). I'm constantly getting compliments on how nice the Sahara looks. It may not increase the resale value that same amount as you spent on storage, but it will sell fast when you're done with it.

Whether or not the price is right, depends on where you are. Around Tulsa, $150-200 for indoor, not heated. About half that out in the countryside, and I'm paying about $60 for covered, enclosed on sides and one end.

Under covered storage, I've not had to redo any caulking in ten years (but still have to inspect it). I also don't have to worry as much about UV damage, but being outdoors, there are potentially mice, squirrels, and the critters that eat mice and squirrels.

Will you get your money back in 10 years? Probably not, but the RV will be easier to sell if it doesn't show as much weather damage.

A lot of folks here on rural property will build their own barns or sheds, for all the stuff they need to store. Compared to renting, a steel building with steel frame, built to handle our wind loads, will take 10 to 20 years to pay out, at $15,000 to $40,000 for a motorhome-size building with 15 foot or more eave height. You can put a travel trailer in a much smaller building, but most folks sooner or later want to store something bigger.

I am renting have been for years, rates keep going up , and I am to the point if I should build a garage. I have a boat and rv in two inclosed sheds 14x40 14' tall on a slab. with electric. 300.00 month for both. Houston area.

if you got the room build your own, or better yet find a building and rent it out to others.

In the Metro Baltimore area your going to pay $400 to $500+ a month for indoor storage if you can find any. Outdoor covered storage is $200+ if you can find it and open is $125+. I would jump at the chance to get indoor heated storage for $200 a month.

One thing I have noticed is that storage cost vary a lot depending on what part of the country you live. In my local area in Florida, for a 30x10 outside storage area just to park, it $75-$100 a month. I pay for a covered spot that is 45x12.5' and has unmetered electric for about $275 after taxes and all the nickel and diming. It's right down the street from me so it's very convenient. It also has a dump station, bathroom, air compressor and wash area. I cringe when I think how much I have spent there in the last 4 years but for all the convenience, being able to leave my TT plugged in, etc., it is worth it to me. Plus, my almost 5 year old TT looks brand new since it stays out of the elements.
