I mounted a hard rubber one on my coach 11 years ago, I bolted it to a piece of aluminum angle iron at the back cap. It's been there all 11 years without a problem. I keeps big stuff off of the toad. Be sure to mount it 4 inches off the road so that it will not drag. The toad does still get dirty - it does not prevent the water born dirt that gets kicked up all around the back of the coach from getting on it. But I do think that it keeps rocks off of it. I know for a fact that when I had a blowout, it kept the tire tread off the toad. For those who say it kicks up rocks, I think that they mount it too low so that it drags when the coach dips on rough roads. Mine is 4 inches off the ground and has not been a problem. As to hanging up on curbs, etc., I have not experienced any problems. On the few occasions where it crossed something like that, it just swings up and over it and drops back down. Also, I have a slight incline up into my storage building and it does drag a bit going in and out, but again, it has not been a problem.
