Insurance not replacing fridge?

We had a fridge fire and the insurance is paying for repair, but will not replace the fridge because it was the cause of the fire. This makes no sense to me - anyone have any experience with anything like this or understand insurance law better than I do? All input is appreciated.

  • I also want to say... Dennis, you did an excellent job on the Samsung install. I know that you will be happy with a residential fridge.

We had such good luck out of our Jenn Air fridge in the Dynasty that I requested the same brand be put in the new coach. The options for our floor plan were a 'top-of-the-line' GE model or Sub-Zero. I don't care for GE products and we've had so much trouble with Sub-Zero products at home.

Our previous Jenn Air bounced down the road for 7.5 yrs. and worked perfectly. I've noticed that Liberty has installed several Jenn Air fridge's on units made after ours.

    Safe travels,
    MM.

That looks fantastic! Mine is almost in the hallway, so just two or three inches of depth more may be a deal breaker for me. However, looking at yours, it looks about the same. What model is that? I was thinking it was a Frigidaire, confused it with another swap I read about.
  • Norcold is playing hardball with the 1200 LRIM refer owners. It is likely that when engineering discovered the manufacturing defect, they conducted extensive research on the problem and solutions. Since they are on Fix "F" it seems that the General Counsel pushed engineering to release the fixes before they were fully tested. The refer owners have been doing the testing for Norcold engineering, which is why they keep distributing new and improved fixes.

This is not a flat tire -- it is a product defect. You should be fully compensated, but that is not likely to happen unless you employ legal counsel who could write a demand letter and threaten to file a lawsuit. That may be farther than you wish to pursue this. The strength of the case for refer owners with a fire is that Norcold will pay very large sums to settle before it permits a judge to force civil discovery and cause release of all the Norcold engineering research.
  • That is correct. Insurance will not pay to replace the refrigerator. Since it was the cause they will not pay to fix or replace. Think of a flat tire. If thou get a flat tire insurance will not pay for it but if your rim or fender is damaged because of it then they will fix those.

They first told me that whatever part caused the fire (circuit board, canister, etc) would not be covered. Because the fridge was a total loss, that has now been deemed the culprit. Makes no sense.

The part that fails is not covered under an accident policy the subsequent damage to belongings is
