Interesting German Motorhome

Saw this Morelo Palace MH at South Lake Tahoe with Swiss license plates. Having been helped when traveling in Europe I went over and offered for them to ride to the other end of the lake with us as the roads around the lake are not real MH friendly. Little did I know there was a SmartCar in the back. It's winched in/out on ramps that store under the car. I was surprised it was on 16" tires and was rear wheel drive and of coarse diesel.
$5000 to ship it each way for their one year trip.

  • I love it.
Excellent build for small family that wants it all in small and convenient package.
Still with US "bigger is better" I doubt it will come to this country.
Even Smart cars are pretty rare regardless being 20 years on the roads.

Looks cool. A few things I noticed, does not look like they do slides (unless I missed it) and the bin doors are hinged at the bottom. Seems like if a bin latch would fail the bin door would fall open.

Generally they do not do slides, but seem to be a feature of luxury " Horse Boxes", air conditioned Motorhome, Toy haulers, built on European MDT and HDT Truck Chassis
    European MDT based Motorhome

    Nice, but it looks narrow.

Maximum standard vehicle widths for private vehicles in the EU are a bit less than in U.S. and Canada, for some classes of roads, although commercial vehicles on Class 3 roads (at 2.6M) get about an inch more than we do here.

Specifications show this one at 2.4 meters wide, which is just under 8 feet.

The other thing they have to deal with is a sharp break in licensing, fees and taxes at 3500 KG. This motorhome is already over that, so operators will have special licenses.

It is built on the IVECO Daily Van chassis, 70C version 3 Litre Diesel with a 23,000lb GVWR
IVECO Daily 70c is also the basis of this 28ft twin slide Jayco Class C
