Do you prefer a light colored interior or a dark

I truly dislike the dark interior. I am currently trying to make our 5'r a " coastal cottage " and everything from the wood, valances, and wallpaper is dark. Not an easy feat!
Lighter colors make it seem more roomy and not as closed in.
