Inverter and TV

Hi guys!

Why does my on board inverter fail to allow my tv to turn on? New rv. Dealership told me it should so we can use the tv while driving without using the generator.

Any suggestion?

  • Are you sure there is an Inverter and not just a CONverter?

    They are very different.
  • So tv works fine when MH is plugged into power, but not on inverter. Sounds like the plug is not powered by the inverter. Dealer could be wrong as to which outlets are connected to inverter.
  • Thanks for the replies.
TV is not in view of driver (class C).
There is no sign of power using inverter. Tv works fine when plugged into home outlet.

  • Many MH's have the TV locked out while underway. Mostly Class A's where the TV is viewable by the driver. Watching TV while driving is illegal in many places.
  • If it is providing power to the TV, you might want to check to see if it is a pure (or true) sine-wave inverter. I understand some TV's may not like Modified sine wave inverters.
  • Is the TV built in the unit? If it is there probably a lock out circuit to prevent the TV from coming on especially if there TV is right above the drivers head. It is designed like this as it is against the law to have the TV on, if the driver can see the TV.
