Inverter life

Wondering if anyone knows the expected longevity of an Inverter? After 14 years mine seems to be acting up.
  • Just had mine replaced. Lasted 10 years. Fortunately we have GS warranty and only paid deductible.

Actually quite true, It will fail sooner or LATER.. (Well it's already later, but that's not what I'm p;osting about)

I have not 10 feet from me a 2-way radio, Still works as good as the day I bought it.. In 1978.
  • 14 years is a really good run and you should not feel bad if you choose to replace it. I had a Heart 458 which had a fan fail but I found a replacement and got it running again. I then found a deal on a TSW (PSW) inverter and I took out my working 12 year old Heart and threw it away. It was only a matter of time and I would rather replace hardware on my schedule than being forced to replace the hardware at the least convenient moment.
  • Hi,

I'd start by tightening all the connections to the inverter.

The good thing is that similar products are available and cheaper that what you got as OEM.
  • It's like any 14 year old electronic device, it's going to fail sooner or later. Probably the design life is around 10 years or so. The solid state devices either work or they don't, what often fails is a mechanical device (like a switch or a solenoid), the solder can crystallize, and connectors can tarnish.
