Inverter question

Do you run with the Inverter on while driving on the road? The refrigerator does not always automatically switch from AC to battery after leaving RV park, is it OK to run with the inverter on without running the house batteries down?
  • I run with my inverter off...turn it on when needed. I called Magnum...they said run with it either off or on, makes no difference.

Yes. YOu use only a slight bit more energy going through the inverter.

But....gotta ask.....are you SURE that the fridge has a mode where it runs ONLY on 12 V ? Possible but not common.

The ref. runs on AC when plugged into 30 or 50 amp. then when it is unplugged from the 30 or 50 amp source it is supposed to switch automatically to gas which it did for 12 years then for some reason it forgets to switch. Maybe it has the same problem remembering as I do "AGE".:B

Usually on the back of the refrigerator there are two 120 volt outlets. One is hot all of the time, on your inverter, for the ice maker. The other outlet is hot only when you are on shore power or generator. Perhaps the cord from your refrigerator was switched from one outlet to the other. If you want to run on your inverter while on the road, you have to be plugged in to an outlet that stays hot all of the time.

  • A/c to battery or did you want to say gas ( 12 volt to control board is on ac or gas ) If you have a gas electric fridge they are seldom wired into a 110 inverter circuit, on purpose. Does your inverter power your fridge? Or are you now residential ?
On the Question , we run with the inverter "on "24/7 The engine alternator charges the chassis battery and also the coach battery ( inverter) with 160 potential amps .. In my case ,More than enough. Your coach may be wired differently though.
  • We never turn the inverter off. The engine alternator is more than sufficient to keep your batteries charged if the inverter is used to power your refrigerator.
