From what I had been reading the 12v wires need to be kept as short as possible to minimize voltage drop, the AC lines will not experience that so I was going to mount the inverter in the battery compartment.
Looking at a Samlex SSW-1000-12A 1000 Watt Pure Sine Inverter with remote panel.
Laptop almost out of juice, have to go plug in, will catch up on thread tomorrow.

Most inverter manufacturers specifically mention NOT to install an inverter in the same compartment as the batteries due to the out gassing from the batteries.
