lack of prevention, usually comes from lack of use
people think i,m not using it, i dont have do anything to it
besides that is not the point OR why i brought it up
using the generator to power the fridge while traveling
solves several problems, it lowers strain on the alternator, eliminates the need for using an inverter for the fridge, no wiring changes, no battery changes, and provides regular use of the genset, so the once a month maintenance run is NOT as a compelling need, it IS the preventative maintenance
and it points out one more way of doing things to be considered
it really wasn't about small engine use issues
lets see FORD class C traveling 70 mph gets what 10mpg maybe less
4 hour travel time 280 miles 28 gallons of gas ( you can supply your numbers to adjust this figure)
genset at idle 300w load maybe 1/4 gal per hr
so 4hrs run time, use 1 gal of gas to keep fridge cold
the cost of the generator use for fridge while driving, is a very minor cost compared to everything else involved with driving the RV
to me the idea of all the cost of inverter wiring etc.. to use electricity is an over the top up front expense and future problems that can be avoided for very little on going expense
