Invertor, how do I know when batteries are getting low?

My motorhome has an after market invertor that powers just the entertainment equipment (TV, sat receiver, DVD player) I have 2 6 volt batteries for power. How do I know when the batteries are getting low? Is there a possiblitity of doing damage to the TV, etc if the power gets to low? Thanks

    I bought a cheap digital volt meter off ebay and hooked it up to my 12 volt system so I can monitor the voltage.

    My fuse panel is over the refrigerator so I hooked the meter up there and put it on the wall in the kitchen area.
