They are NOT illegal!
HOWEVER, (and it is a HUGE "however"), those who set one up MUST know the laws of their home state. It is entirely possible that they can NEVER bring that RV home, because the second they cross the state line into their home state the laws of that state come into play, and the state taxing authority WILL get them. Especially if a neighbor turns them in. Depending on the state, it could be a good payday for the neighbor; they could get up to 10% (maybe more) of any penalties charged as a reward for doing their civic duty!
I have said it many times on these LLC threads, and I will continue to say it: KNOW the laws, both in the state where you establish the LLC AND in your home state! FOLLOW the laws to the letter, and you will have no trouble. If that means you can never bring the RV home, so be it, do NOT bring it into your home state, EVER!
It really is just that simple!
