An LLC is not illegal as long as it serves a legal function. That is not what an Montana LLC is designed to accomplish. Avoiding state taxes is illegal no matter what the vehicle (pardon the pun) is. We have an LLC for rental property in another state and we file the proper information to the Feds and both states at tax time. You can set one up in Alabama if you want.
